Student Teaching Placement: Classroom Management Cont....

In Mrs. M's 5th grade classroom, there is an "unspoken" zero tolerance policy in place. Not having your homework will get you in "working lunch" or land you at "working recess" or both. It is a strict environment, where students feet are even to be "in" squares, aligned with the classroom line. There are no "rules" per say, just expectations, and they are set extremely high! The students have a clear understanding of what she expects of them, and they respect her for this!
One thing about Mrs. M's classroom management (I like) is a "compliment" bulletin board where students are able to compliment one another on notes. When the board gets full, these cards go into a bucket for a prize (?) drawing. I have not observed the prize drawing as of right now.

  1. I love the idea of the compliment board! What a great way of building a sense of community between the children and having them be respectful of one another.
