Well, it's been a long week! I came down with the "stomach flu" as I have heard it called, aka "norovirus" on Tuesday and have been down and out since then. However, today I feel as though I am on the mend and the mother ship has dropped me back off on planet earth, FINALLY! : )
With that out of the way, let me mention the case study. My student that I have chosen for this project fits the criteria of this study perfectly. He has a hard time staying in his seat, goofs off at inappropriate times, constantly seeking attention from peers as well as adults, etc. Trying to figure out why has been a bit tricky for me. In the beginning I could not understand why he had been placed in our classroom. Many of the other adults have had him in their rooms and could not "handle" him. In our room he did not display any of these behaviors they spoke of, that is until I began taking over lessons. More and more he would get out of his seat at random times during my lesson, laugh or talk out loud, anything to get my attention. And it seems that the more attention is shown to him through redirection, the more he seems to participate in these behaviors. Now let me make sure you understand that I have not been in my placement since Tuesday, but these are the sort of notes I have collected on him thus far. We still have a long way to go.
There are several pieces I still need in understanding my student and that is his personal information: home environment, past school experiences, strengths, etc. He is a wonderful kid, well liked, participates in class, and is extremely bright! I am looking forward to working with him and helping to develop a behavior plan that he feels he can be successful with.

Wow! I'm sorry you were sick. I'm glad you're better (even though it is weeks later). Our students sound to be a little bit similar in their behaviors and need for attention. Maybe we should talk and swap ideas for future students.
